How will I be notified of my child’s progress in class?

We provide daily and weekly feedback to parents at pick up and have implemented a formal, and structured assessment process each school year in September, December, and May. Each child is assessed on a variety of age-appropriate developmental and academic skills after which we encourage parent feedback and individual conferences upon request.

How does the school and/or teachers handle discipline?

Discipline and structure are very important in the early years of a child’s development and the education initiative at our school. Proactively, we have a very structured day and diverse curriculum and we feel that helps every child feel safe and secure. We take our responsibility to teach respect for one another and adults very seriously. We recognize that every child is different, so we use various techniques that work at different times and for different children such as re-direction, teacher shadowing, room helper duties and reward programs to give each child an equal chance to be “their best.” At FishCreek, follow behavioral chart systems that are monitored and signed by parents weekly. Collaboration between parents are encouraged. Additionally, teachers will use timeout, (1 minute per age), when appropriate and effective. Lastly, we encourage parent involvement with conferences, daily updates, and behavior modification logs.
